Hannibal tabs Quentin Hamner to helm Pirate Football

It is considered one of the prestige programs in Missouri High School Football. And today, Hannibal High School made a prestige hire in bringing in Quentin Hamner to replacing retiring Hall of Fame Coach Mark St. Clair.

A Press Conference to formally introduce Hamner to the Hannibal Football family is slated for Friday.

Hamner informed the Keokuk Administration and his Chief Players on Monday of his intent to take the Pirate job. Sources close to the situation tell KHQA that the new Pirate Boss was deeply torn over leaving the Keokuk rebuild "in progress" and went back and forth after being offered the position last week. Ultimately, the lure of helming Pirate Football and being able to compete immediately at the top of the MSHSAA Football world from Day One was an opportunity too enticing to pass up.

While Hamner was a late (and a bit of surprise entry) into the Hannibal Applicant Pool, the Pirate search committee already had a strong working knowledge of Hamner's body of work at Clark County and as an assistant coach to the legendary Fred Bouchard on the West Side of the state of Missouri. KHQA learned last year that Hamner was one of the first applicants into the pool a year ago when Mark St Clair initially announced his retirement; only to reverse course.
