Our latest One Class At A Time winner is ending one chapter of her teaching career while excited to start a new adventure.

Dawn Kessler will start a new teaching position at St. Mary's Catholic School in Mt. Sterling this fall.

With the help of our sponsors Continental Cement, Green America Recycling, and Doors 'N More, KHQA awarded Kessler with a $1,000 grant.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for providing this school with this resource," Kessler said.
Literacy is so important and getting them started on the right steps with reading is key to everything. I appreciate this so much.

Kessler plans use use her $1,000 grant to bring a new reading program to her students starting in the fall.

F and P is a system that lets kids read on their level, where normal old fashioned based text books would force them all into one level. We can still use them to teach a skill and introduce a skill but then we can use the virtual library to level them on their exact level.

Kessler said the grant will allow the school to purchase the digital F and P reading library. This library of more than a thousands books will allow teachers to match a book on each child's level

You can push books out to them that are at their reading level. They can read and send it back to you, so you can hear them recording. It's like you are with them every second of the day even when you are not.
For a teacher you are able to catch so many more learning aspects for them. It gives cues you in on so many different things that you may not pick up in a smaller group, its individualized.

This will also help parents out at home.

Kessler said parents will be able to see and understand what the right reading level is for their kids. But even better, with a digital library kids can also read books that they have an interest in.
