New IL legislation moves state jobs to capital
Hundreds of state jobs are now being moved to Springfield because of new legislation signed today in Illinois.
Governor Bruce Rauner signed House Bill 4295 into law today in the state capitol.
The law states that Sangamon County is the default location for most state jobs, unless there is a specific reason the job needs to be in a different location.
The new law is consistent with the plan to sell the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago, which houses many current state employees.
The bill is effective immediately and applies to newly created or newly filled positions.
