Spirit of the Tri-States: Pets for Vets at the Quincy Humane Society

Pet available for adoption at the Quincy Humane Society

This Spirit of the Tri-States Report brought to you by Continental Cement and Green America Recycling takes you to the Quincy Humane Society.

That's where veterans can adopt a pet for free this Saturday.

It's part of Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza's "Pets for Vets" adoption event on Veterans Day.

Any veteran who adopts a cat or a dog from the Quincy Humane Society this Saturday will have the adoption fee waived.

The Quincy Humane Society is one of only about 10 shelter participants across the state.

To be eligible for the fee waiver, potential adopters must bring a government-issued photo ID and one of the following:

-Military ID
-Veterans ID
-Discharge paper work (DD-214 or NGB Form 22)

Only veterans with a favorable discharge will qualify for fee waivers.

Veterans are welcome to go to the Quincy Humane Society Friday to get the process started ahead of time.

The shelter is open from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
