WIU opens resident halls early ahead of winter weather
The Spring 2019 semester at Western Illinois University kicks off at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14.
Because of the forecasted winter weather anticipated for Friday evening through Sunday, University Housing and Dining Services (UHDS) will allow students to move in after 3 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 11).
Move in was originally set for after 10 a.m. Saturday.
Returning students keeping their same room assignments just need to log-in to STARS using any campus computer, verify information and select "Residence Hall Check-in" from the drop down to electronically check back in to the halls.
New students and returning students with new room assignments must check in at their respective residence hall's information desk.
There will be no dining centers open Friday. Corbin-Olson (C/O) Dining Center will be open for brunch Saturday, Jan. 12. The Thompson Hall and C/O dining centers will be open for dinner Saturday, and regular dining center hours resume Sunday, Jan. 13.
The University Bookstore will be open from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and the Union Service Center will be open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Burger King will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday. The Union will resume its regular operating hours Monday, Jan. 14.
Students who choose to return to Macomb over the weekend should be mindful of the forecast. Winter driving conditions in Illinois can be found at gettingaroundillinois.com.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a winter weather advisory has been issued for some counties in the region, including McDonough, from 6 p.m. Friday through 6 p.m. Saturday.
A winter weather advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
