Wellness Check: Alcohol screenings now recommended
HANNIBAL, Mo. —
You can now expect an 'alcohol screening' during your next visit to the doctor.
The United States Preventive Services Task Force advises all physicians to conduct a 'drinking checkup.'
Dr. James Tucker at Hannibal Regional Medical Group says the screening will ask when was your first drink and how often you drink.
"It is a comfortable environment with doctors that we try to encourage and so we want honesty from our patients so that we can provide the best benefit to the patient for lifelong health and wellness," said Tucker who practices Family Medicine.
Tucker says the goal is to pinpoint early signs of unhealthy alcohol use.
