Ulysses S. Grant monument unveiled in Quincy park
On this day in history, Ulysses S. Grant came to Quincy with the 21st Illinois Infantry.
It happened on July 11, 1861.
This year, the Historical Society of Quincy and Civil War Roundtable unveiled a new marker in Clat Adams Park.
The monument took 2 years to get to this point, and now Grant is immortalized in granite.
Getting here took a lot of uniting organizations, just as Grant worked to unite the US in the Civil War.
I feel really wonderful that we've been able to accomplish this. It's been almost two years, but everybody helped. The Park District helped, the city of Quincy helped, the Roundtable folks helped, the Historical Society helped." stated Beth Young with the Historical Society.
