Sheriff's office investigates stabbing in Hancock County


    According to Sheriff Scott Bentzinger, the incident happened around 11:00 p.m., on July 9th out on the street. There were two adult men, ages 34 and 43, who were in a vehicle that began to argue.

    The Hancock County Sheriff's Office is investigating a stabbing in Pontoosuc, Illinois that happened Monday night. Officials said it happened at 1530 East County Road about a quarter of a mile south of Highway 9 and 96.

    According to Sheriff Scott Bentzinger, the incident happened around 11:00 p.m., on July 9th out on the street. There were two adult men, ages 34 and 43, who were in a vehicle that began to argue.

    Both men were injured by a knife. There were two other occupants in the car not injured.

    Bentzinger said the 43-year-old man was stabbed in the chest and taken to Ft. Madison by a private vehicle. He later met with the Lee County Ambulance and Ft. Madison police. The Lee County Ambulance then took the man to Ft. Madison Community Hospital.

    The 34-year-old man received treatment at Carthage Memorial on Tuesday, July 10th.

    No names were released.

    This incident remains under investigation.
