KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — A topic that continues to gain traction across the country is if transgender women should be allowed to play women's sports.
In the Show-Me State, the topic has led Missouri lawmakers to consider banning such a thing from happening.
Some people believe that this shows that lawmakers can create bills just because they don't agree with an issue.
We spoke with U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) to see where he stands on the topic.
"My view is that women's sports are for women and I think it's a huge mistake to try to cancel women's sports in our state or in any state in this country," Hawley said. "Allowing biological men to participate in women's sports, to compete against biological women will disadvantage only one group of people, women."
The proposed bill has passed a Missouri Senate committee with a vote of six to three.
It has yet to make it to the Missouri Senate floor.
