Scotties celebrates 80 years of business
QUINCY, ILL. —
Well known Scotties Fun Spot in Quincy, Illinois is celebrating its 80th year as a family-owned skating rink.
Scotties got its start with a portable skating rink on North 12th street in the year 1936.
The Fun Spot was transformed in 2010 into a full sized Family Entertainment Facility
The facility houses a two-and-a-half story play area, laser tag, go-karts, bumper cars, mini-bowling, a huge arcade and café.
Scotties is planning an 80th anniversary party on May 14th with 80-cents admissions along with other specials.
Third generation owner, Jeff Scott, said his favorite part has been growing up at Scotties.
"I grew up roller skating. I can remember as a kid sleeping under the skate counter and growing up as a teenager doing the all night skates. So I kind of grew up roller skating and being in the business. Then to look back and to see where we were and where we are now, it's really neat. We've had proposals, and many birthday parties. It's neat to be a part of all of that," Scott said.
According to the Roller Skating Association, Scotties is the longest same family owned skating rink in the country, as well as held the first all night skate in 1941, and toilet paper party in 1950.
Scotties Fun Spot will soon be coming out with a new program for school as well as gaining some new attractions.
The announcement of the new attractions will be coming soon and are expected to be completed by fall.
