The Quincy Police Department arrested a registered sex offender Tuesday morning.

Earl F. Wierschem Jr. , 52, of 620 S 21st Street in Quincy, was arrested near 8th and State by QPD and the U.S. Marshals Task Force at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

He had an outstanding federal warrant for one count of child pornography possession and one count of child pornography receipt.

He was later transported to Springfield, Illinois where he had his first appearance in U.S. Court.

According to a news release from QPD, due to existing medical conditions and other factors, Wiershem was released on a recognizance bond pending GPS monitoring and other restrictions.

Wierchem is next due in court March 15.

The investigation was started by QPD in 2017 while working with the IL Attorney General's Office Internet Crimes Against Children division.

A search warrant was ultimately executed at Wiershem's residence at 620 S 21st Street on Feb. 8, 2018.

Weirshem was eventually indicted by a federal grand jury in Springfield on Feb. 5, 2019 and a warrant was issued.

According to Adams County court records, Wiershem has a previous child pornography arrest in 2011.

He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of Indecent Solicitation of a Child in that case and was sentenced to 30 months probation.

He has been required to be listed as a registered sex offender since that conviction.
