Body located in river near Keokuk wastewater plant identified as Keokuk man
Updated July 6th at 11 a.m.
An autopsy was scheduled Thursday and the person recovered from the water has been identified as Keokuk resident Jake Anthony Mason, 34.
The Keokuk Police are waiting on autopsy results to make a positive identification on a body that was discovered in the Mississippi River Wednesday in the 1400 block of Mississippi Drive, which is close to Keokuk’s wastewater plant.
No name has been released while the man’s body is at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Decedent Care Center awaiting an autopsy.
Keokuk Police Chief Dave Hinton said it appears to have been a recent death.
The department responded at about 1:17 p.m. Wednesday. The Keokuk Fire Department assisted in removing the man’s body from the water.
Hinton said the autopsy results could be done as soon as today, depending on the hospital’s scheduling.
The matter is still being investigated but there is no suspected concern to the public, a press release from the department states.
