Quincy could be the home of a new solar farm
Quincy could be the home of a new solar farm
Quincy, Illinois —
A solar farm could be coming to the Quincy area.
The city council received a request for one to go up in the Ellington Road area.
In order for that to happen, zoning of that area must be changed from rural to industrial.
The Farm will sit on a 65-acre property.
This development comes thanks to an incentive program from the state of Illinois.
City officials expect to see more.
"Well, this is an example of a developer taking advantage of some state tax credits to establish a solar farm to sell power back into the grid," City planner Chuck Bevelheimer said. "So that's nice and we'll see more of this I suspect."
As for what's next, an ordinance must be drafted and read three times before the development can be approved.
