Students in Pre-K through 5th grade that attend Quincy Public Schools will be using all new bus routes and stops.

The new routes go into effect on Thursday.

QPS Transportation Director Shane Barnes says two areas specifically will be affected.

"We will be loading in the afternoon on Van Buren between 8th and 9th and the other big change is loading at the old Ellington School which is Baldwin K-2 will be loading on Lindell," said Barnes.

He says part of the change is due to a reduction in tier systems for the district.

"We went from a three-tier system with Baldwin School to a two-tier system with a K-5 tier and a high school and junior high tier," said Barnes.

Barnes asks parents and drivers in the area to simply have some patience while the kinks are worked out.

"Give us time. First week or so (it) usually it takes us two or three days before we get in a rhythm," said Barnes.

Barnes says this change was implemented to level the playing field for all students.

"All schools be equal in their enrollment and not have a specific school targeted to a certain clientele," said Barnes.
