QPS announces new school name, teacher raise, and taxpayer break
Quincy Public Schools announced the name of it's fifth new elementary school, Wednesday night's school board meeting.
The school on Harrison Street will be known as the Sarah Atwater Denman Elementary school.
Denman played a critical role in the founding of Blessing Hospital and the Quincy Public Library.
Also happening tonight - the district found additional dollars to give teachers a two-percent raise.
That's instead of an original 1.5% raise that the district and teachers had agreed upon if there was additional funding available at the end of the fiscal year.
And good news for taxpayers.
The Moody rating system upgraded the district from a "triple d" to "a two" level district. That means a lesser burden on taxpayers regarding the last $21.5 million dollars from the QPS bond referendum passed in 2014.
