Potential for legal sports betting worrisome for some experts

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for legal sports betting throughout the country.

With many states desperate for additional revenue, many may choose to legalize sports betting.

Mark Vanderley is a license clinical professional counselor with Connections Family Counseling who says the increased availability of gambling may lead to an increase in gambling addiction.

"I think making it official, making it more acceptable, could be risky for culture and for those who are inclined towards addiction," said Vanderley.

The National Council on Problem Gambling estimates that despite 5 million Americans qualify as compulsive gamblers, only 8 percent seek help.
