A pedestrian was hit by a car while running in the Kelly's Fun Run in Quincy Sunday morning.
Quincy Police said this happened in the 4200 block of Maine Street at 9:34 a.m.
Police described the victim as a 60-year-old female. Her name is not being released at this time.
Sgt. Folkenroth said the runner was under the assumption the road was closed.
According to the police report, "All three witnesses said that they saw [the vehicle] driving slow but driving really close to the runners. The witnesses stated the car bumped the runner, causing her to fall, and hit her head and then ran over her leg."
"The road was not totally shutdown and this runner was running pretty close to the center line when she was struck. They're supposed to run in just one lane of traffic. The driver was in the correct lane, the runner was not," Sgt. Folkenroth said.
The runner left the scene with a broken ankle, a small brain contusion, and broken bones in her eye socket. She was transported to Blessing with moderate injuries.
According to the event's website, "The course is a 5K and is mostly on Maine Street which is relatively flat with some slight hills."
