UPDATE: 2 people dead in school bus vs. semi crash near Bloomington

All of the students sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to local hospital via ambulance.

The Illinois State Police has released preliminary information on the bus crash, including names of the diseased.

The semi truck was travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes on I-74. The school bus was driving westbound in the same location, and they collided head-on.

The driver of the semi truck who died from the crash was Ryan E Hute, 34, from Delmar, Iowa.

The deceased passenger of the bus was Charles Crabtree, 72, from Normal, Illinois.

The driver of the bus was Mark A. Kuhn, 64 from Heyworth, Illinois and Steven P. Price, 47 from Bloomington, Illinois was also on the bus along with eight female juvenile passengers.

Three adults were transported via helicopter to area hospitals. All of the female passengers were transported to the hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injures.

This crash remains under investigation.

UPDATE 1:00 am :

The semi truck driver has died as a result from the crash, according to the Illinois State Police.

The name of the victim has yet to be released but we do know he's a 34-year-old male from Iowa.

This is the second victim from the crash.

ISP said the crash occurred at 8:32 p.m. Wednesday night on I-74 at milepost 137 after a semi truck collided with a school bus carrying Normal West Community High School Junior Varsity Girls Freshman Basketball Team members.

The victim of the crash was identified as Charles Crabtree, 72, a male of Normal Ill.

Crabtree was a volunteer of basketball team that was on the school bus.

12 people total were involved in the crash - 11 were on the school bus and one was the driver of the semi-truck.

All of the students sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to local hospital via ambulance.

The semi truck driver and two others were airlifted from the scene - the coach, the semi truck driver and the bus driver and taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.

The investigation is ongoing and ISP said it will last through the night.

The Illinois State Police Zone agents are on scene at each of the hospitals.

The interstate is expected to remain closed for the next couple of hours.

Four students were taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Bloomington, three to St. Francis in Peoria and two are in critical condition.

Illinois State Police District 6 is responding to a semi truck vs school bus crash on I-74 Wednesday.

Police said the semi truck was going the wrong way and crashed head-on with the school bus at mile marker 137 near Bloomington.

Normal West Community High School Junior Varsity Girls Freshman Basketball Team was returning home on the bus from a game at Champaign Central at the time of the crash.

Parents of the players are encouraged to come to the school, according to McLean County Unit 5's Facebook page. Staff is on hand at the school to help support students and parents.

There are injuries, but the severity of the crash is still unknown.
