Macon County home invasion leaves suspect deceased
Shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday morning, Macon County Sheriff's Office Deputies were dispatched to a report of an intruder inside a home that had been shot.
The incident took place on State Highway UU, northwest of Callao, Missouri.
The homeowner told officials the intruder used a ladder to gain entry through a sliding glass door on the second level that was left open.
Once inside, the intruder made his way to the main floor and first threatened the homeowner in his bedroom with an air nailer.
After a brief verbal altercation, the suspect pulled a handgun on the homeowner.
This is when the homeowner fired upon the suspect.
When deputies arrived, the suspect was found deceased with a loaded handgun in his possession.
The suspect has fired the handgun at least one time.
A search of the suspects clothing revealed a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. An autopsy will be scheduled for later this week.
The investigation is ongoing by the Sheriff’s Office, the Macon County Corner, and the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
