Macomb PD welcomes Lidar Unit
The Macomb Police department now has a new way to detect and enforce speed.
Recently the department received the Lidar Unit from the Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge after winning first place in their division.
“By looking through the eye piece we can see the target vehicle moving and then there is a reticle, like a heads up display, that shows like crosshairs and so we can aim the laser on a specific vehicle and so that we are only getting a speed of that certain vehicle and so it is highly accurate," said Lieutenant Jeff Hamer.
The new Lidar Unit looks almost like binoculars. Lieutenant Hamer says this new unit is more fair to the motoring public.
