McDonough District Hospital recently welcomed youth volunteers from Macomb High School’s Macomb Youth Leadership Organization (MYLO).

Leading the project was Macomb High School senior and MYLO member Nicole Lester. The students worked to complete projects such as assembling patient admitting bags, folding patient information brochures and stuffing envelopes.

MYLO is a program designed to provide youth with exposure to the community and adult role models and to develop life skills. The three-tier program advances youth from understanding leadership, mentee a community member and then completing a service project.

The program, led by the University of Illinois Extension, begins with sophomore students and then progresses through their senior year.

Local teens interested in volunteering at McDonough District Hospital can participate in the annual Summer Volunteen Program that runs June 11-July 27. The volunteer program provides community youth with opportunities for personal growth and development.
