Local volunteers get boost for boating rescues on the Mississippi River
The Quincy Volunteer Emergency Corps got $6,000 from the local lions club in Adams County Wednesday night.
Corps members use their own boats and time for searches, and became dangerously low on funds to fuel their boats earlier this summer.
"It's another group of volunteers that get absolutely no tax money it's all, they volunteer, they have costs and we just felt like it would be a good project to do this year," Lions Club Concession Co-Chair Jim Hesse explained. "It's just a good group of guys, they do a good job, and it's a service that's well needed."
The corps plans to use the money for emergency fuel.
