A northeast Missouri native is considering a bid for one of Missouri's senate seats in Washington.

Craig O'Dear grew up in Lewistown, Missouri.

He's now a trial attorney in Kansas City.

He met with residents in Lewistown Wednesday morning to discuss their concerns and his desire to move American politics toward a more central direction.

O'Dear has launched an exploratory committee to possibly challenge Senator Claire McCaskill.

He would run as an independent.

O'Dear said he's concerned about the lack of partisanship in our country.

"The two political parties are playing more and more to their extremes," O'Dear explained. "It's leading to division in our country, and it's leading to gridlock in Washington D.C."

O'Dear met with residents Wednesday morning at Stanley's Highway 6 Diner.

Owner Debra Stanley has known O'Dear for years.

She said she thinks he would represent the Show-Me State well in our nation's capitol.

"To me, it'll help us in our area because he's from here, so he'll want better for here," Stanley explained. "That's important."

O'Dear plans to visit with residents in Canton, Missouri Wednesday night.

He'll meet with voters in Palmyra and Mexico on Thursday.
