A Lee County man who was charged with First Degree Murder in February following the death of Keokuk woman Calove Sackman is pleading Not Guilty.

After waiving his rights to a preliminary hearing, Adam Golden McCain elected to not appear in court for his arraignment and opted for a written arraignment, where he pled Not Guilty Monday morning.

McCain also waived his right to a speedy trial, meaning that instead of the typical 90-day period in which a trial must be completed, he has chosen to take the period of a year.

McCain next will appear in court for his pre-trial hearing followed by a jury trial. Dates for these have not yet been set.
