The Adams County Health Department says they've seen an increase of the flu virus in the community.

Health Department Administrator Jerrod Welch says as the weather cools off, more people are indoors meaning there is often more transmission of the virus.

He says, if you haven't received your flu shot yet there is still time to get treated so you're not sick for Christmas.

"We're starting to see some Flu A circulating and the vaccine that we have for the year does contain several types of Flu A protection. So each year they try to predict which types of flu will be circulating," says Welch.

Welch says you can't get the flu from receiving the flu shot. The flu shot takes about two weeks to fully go in to effect.

To try and prevent the spread always remember to wash your hands, cover your mouth and nose and stay home if you're sick.
