GRIGGSVILLE, Ill. (KHQA) — A 'Hometown Hero' can be defined as a person who has an impact on their neighborhood, but our latest hometown hero has impacted an entire school district and two different cities.
Maurice "Frosty" White has been a bus driver for the Griggsville-Perry school district for four decades.
Over the course of the years, he's seen kids grow into adults and impacted dozens in the process.
"Frosty has a been a huge impact here basically because he's a great guy," said Griggsville-Perry Superintendent Kent Hawley.
Hawley said from the time he's arrived at the school district the one constant has been Frosty.
Earlier this week Frosty celebrated his retirement from the school district in grand style.
Many around the area describe Frosty as a loving, funny, and compassionate man with a presence that will surely be missed.
"Anytime you lose someone the caliber of Frosty you're losing a little bit of the soul of your organization," said Hawley.
At first, Frosty was a bus driver wanting to get kids to and from school safely, but over time, watching the kids grow-up made him grow closer to the students.
"You see I have students riding it and their parents rode my bus when they were younger so it's two generations," said "Frosty" White.
Frosty said he will miss all of the unique circumstances he and the children had to overcome to make it to their destinations.
"Probably once in a while getting stuck on the bus, or being late, or having a breakdown. Just anything unusual you remember it," said Hawley.
The past 40 years have brought Frosty almost every emotion one could have.
"It's been a good ride for me," said Hawley.
We'd like to send our congratulations to Frosty on the nomination and thank our sponsors Peters Heating and Air and Hilbing Auto Body.
