LOUISIANA, Mo. (KHQA) — The former Louisiana police chief is now facing a second degree murder charge.
A grand jury indicted William Jones on the murder charge, and he was arrested on Friday and taken to the Cole County Jail, according to Jones' attorney Christopher Lozano.
Lozano said he will ask for a change of venue in this case., and his client will waive his extradition rights to move Jones to Pike County Jail.
Jones, 50, was already facing multiple charges:
Jones was out of jail on the previous charges after posting bail.
He was first arrested in October of 2022 after his girlfriend's brother was found dead in his home.
When responders arrived at Jones' home, they found found Gabriel Thone, 24, deceased. A second brother of Jones' girlfriend was in respiratory distress but was revived with Narcan and rushed to Pike County Memorial Hospital.
Jones' girlfriend, Alexis Thone, who was there the night her brother died and her other brother was rushed to the hospital, was also arrested and charged with drug trafficking and drug possession.
There is no word at this time whether Thone faces additional charges.
Lozano said a bond hearing on the second degree murder charge against Jones could happen next week, and he'll try to reduce Jones' bond that is now set at $1 million.
Lozano told us he couldn't discuss too many details at this point, but he'll be able to provide more information on the new charge soon.
