A Quincy man and college student faces a misdemeanor battery charge in connection to a reported incident involving a female Sunday.

The Quincy Police Department arrested Kolter Melvin, 20.

Quincy police and Adams County State's Attorney Gary Farha are releasing few details about what happened.

However, Farha said more serious charges will be forthcoming as an investigation unfolds.

He said his office has been in contact with a victim and has taken steps to assure her safety.

Melvin was a catcher and outfielder on John Wood Community College's baseball team according to the college's website.

JWCC spokesperson Tracy Orne said he is a registered student but is not on the 2019 roster at this time.

JWCC did not elaborate on what happened but released the following statement to KHQA:

The College does not condone or tolerate this behavior in any way. Swift action was taken and the individual no longer represents the College in a public manner.

Melvin has been released on a cash-only bond.

A hearing has been set in Adams County court March 6th at 2:30 p.m.

KHQA will bring you more details as they become available.
