Council members narrowly approve downtown Quincy nightclub
QUINCY, IL —
A new night club in Quincy’s downtown is now a reality Monday night. This after originally being turned down by city council members over a month ago.
The council approved 8 to 6 a special permit at 124 North 5th Street.
"We had 1.100 signatures from Quincyians who supported this that we had the opportunity to talk with council members about independently,” said night club manager Chris Taylor. “We had a majority of property owners within a certain distance who came on board and say hey we think this is a great idea and after meeting with the alderman, they said hey were going to give you the opportunity to do this."
The council denied a special permit request at the July 2, meeting.
Alderman Jack Holtschlag rescinded his vote denying the permit from the prior council meeting.
Taylor said crews are working in the basement of the property to secure the buildings structure. He added they have the night club up and running by December.
