City opens bids for solar development at Quincy Regional Airport

Airport Director Sandra Shore says it will be a long time in the making and the airport will solely act as the landlord of the development.

The city of Quincy has opened up bids for solar developments at Quincy Regional Airport.

The bid lists 350 acres of tillable land at the airport as available.

Airport Director Sandra Shore says it will be a long time in the making, and the airport will solely act as the landlord of the development.

"Basically, instead of crops at the airport, we will be doing solar panels. They tend to bring in more revenue. Developers are really excited about it, it is very common throughout the airport industry,” Shore said. “A lot of airports are going that way for the revenue issue and also it resolves some wildlife issues that you run into with crops."

Proposals for the solar developments are due by February 21, at 4 p.m.
