The joys of the Christmas season are just around the corner, but this can be a stressful time for those who can't afford gifts.

The Salvation Army hosts its Christmas assistance sign up this week in the Kroc Center's Worship Theater.

Times to sign up for Christmas assistance are as followed:

Monday, October 22: 1 - 4 p.m.

Tuesday, October 23: 1 - 4 p.m.

Wednesday, October 24: 1 - 4 p.m.

Thursday, October 25: 1 - 6 p.m.

Friday, October 26: 1 - 6 p.m.

Those who fear their Christmas celebrations may be cut short due to financial issues are welcomed to apply to become a participant.

There is not a second that goes by in Quincy that we don't have someone we're helping," Major Andy Miller Jr. with the Salvation Army said. "So to think about that, that we are able to do that, but we can't do that without the public's support.

Volunteers are welcome to help with this week's sign ups, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner services, and for bell ringers for the Red Kettle Campaign.

The first bell ringers of the season are set to deploy November 9 in Quincy and Hannibal.
