Children and fire safety
QUINCY, Il. —
In light of a deadly New York City apartment fire, KHQA met with the Tri-Township Fire Department on Friday afternoon for tips on fire safety and education.
Firefighter Casey Otten says if you have young children, make sure lighters and matches are put away out of reach.
Incidents like these occur because children are curious about their surroundings.
Otten also says education is key when it comes to young children and fire safety.
"Probably the most important is educating kids on the danger of fire and how important it is to be careful and that fire is not a toy and it can be destructive and it can be deadly," said Otten.
Otten also recommends that you have several working smoke detectors in your home.
