Carthage ready to change one house at a time
The city of Carthage has received $400,000 from the state of Illinois and residents in a 12-block area are eligible for the funds.
Up to $45,000 can be loaned to homeowners who are looking to renovate or repair their homes.
If the resident lives in their house for an additional 10 years the loan will be forgiven.
Carthage Mayor James Nightingale says they have a limited number of houses they can update with this grant.
We're looking to do eight houses, but they are not going to give us the money until these people qualify and then it will all be handled through the Western Illinois Regional Council
Mayor Nightingale says the city plans to continue applying for additional grants to further approve the homes in Carthage.
