Alleged altercation leads man to suffer gunshot wound in hand
On July 4th, Burlington Police Officers responded to a report of a subject being shot in the hand at 1203 N. 8th Street.
Officers arrived on scene and learned the victim of the gunshot wound had left the scene.
The subject then presented himself to the ER at Great River Medical Center.
Officers spoke with a 43-year-old female who is roommates with the 60-year-old suspect.
She said the two had been in a verbal altercation leading up to the shooting.
The female attempted to barricade herself within her bedroom when the male forced his way into the room.
The female told officers that she warned the male to not enter the room and told him she was armed with a handgun.
The male then entered the room and attempted to disarm the female.
The gun discharged and a bullet struck the male's hand. He then drove himself with non-life threatening conditions to the hospital.
This case is being reviewed by the Burlington Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division along with the Des Moines County Attorney’s Office to determine whether or not criminal charges will be sought in the incident.
