Adams County EMS showcase new compression device
New Thursday, the Adams County EMS showcased a new device that is expected to greatly help victims of cardiac arrest.
The Lucas 3 is a battery-powered portable chest compression device.
It wraps around the victim and a piston calibrates to the patient and starts the compression process.
Typically the quality of manual compressions drops after one minute due to fatigue
EMS Captain Kyle Dixon says this device is great because it will remove the human element.
"This is going to improve the outcome of our sudden cardiac arrest patients by delivering high quality chest compressions at the adequate depth, rate and consistency," stated Dixon.
Adams County Emercency Medical Services responds to an average of 80 cardiac arrest calls annually.
