Millions of dollars will now be invested into a Southeast Iowa community.

The U.S. Department of Commerce announced plans to award $1 million to the city of Keokuk.

The money will be used to renovate an old Roquette office building.

Mayor Tom Marion says the city will have to match the $1 million grant through Keokuk's Tax Inclement Funding program.

"We'll put those two million dollars, it needs a lot of roof work and some other things. We'll work on upgrading the labs although they are in great shape, we'll work in the interior part of the building to try and get things ready for people" said Mayor Marion.

The building at 1417 Exchange Street originally housed St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Mayor Marion says the building will be a great resource for research due to a large portion of laboratory and office space.
