'Chomping for Charity' takes hot dog eating to the next level

Chowing for Charity

How many hot dogs can you eat in one sit-down? How about for charity?

Seven time Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest winner Joey Chestnut crammed down 69 hotdogs to win the competition and set the world record on July 4 in New York City, but all eyes moved to a contest a little closer to home Saturday.

County Market hosted the first ever "Chomping for Charity" hot dog eating contest.

Participants gathered at the County Market at 24th and Spring in Quincy to show their skill.

In the celebrity face-off, KHQA took on The Quincy Herald-Whig. KHQA ate 31 hot dogs and the Whig ate 29, which means that KHQA's charity CASA will receive the winning $500.

The Whig's charity Good News of Christmas will still receive $100 for their participation in the event.

Thank you to everyone who came out and cheered on KHQA's own Jeff Mondlock, Ryan Delk and Mark Schneider.
