Take a step back in time at the Carthage Fitz Randolph House Inn

Steve and Karol Carr turn classic Carthage home into bed and breakfast.

It is hard to miss the majestic beauty of the

Fitz Randolph House Inn

Located at 262 Main Street in Carthage, its current owners Steve and Karol Carr say that opening up a bed and breakfast was not their original plan when they purchased the grand old home nine years ago.

"We purchased the home, realized it was entirely too big for just the two of us, tried to find a creative way to make use of the space and kind of provide a service for the city of Carthage," Karol said.

The house features

five unique bedrooms

filled with beautiful furniture. Each bedroom has its own unique name like the Turret Suite, The Nursery Suite and the Curtis-Black Suite.

But that's not the only unique thing about the home according to Steve Carr.

"What makes it unique is all the detail in the woods and everything you see here, the windows, the spindles, the stairway, all the details were done by hand," Steve said. "Everything was built by hand, fitted by hand without the benefit of all the power tools and conveniences that we have today. And we try to recreate these things, it really makes you appreciate the skill and the craftsmanship of the people who built this house in 1873."

But not everything is from 1873.

The house also features a modern kitchen complete with a microwave and dishwasher for guests to use.

And when the weather is right, you can spend some time out on the beautiful wrap-around porch.

The Carr's consider themselves caretakers of a precious legacy.

"We like to think that we're conservators," Karol said. "We appreciate and value antiques and the ambiance of the old house and that's a lot of what we sell here is the experience of staying in bed and breakfast surrounded by antiques and the different style of life from the 1870s or 80s."

Steve and Karol encourage you to stop by, ring the bell, and discover for yourself the historic beauty of the Fitz Randolph House Inn.
