It's another school year, and with the new year brings the 13th Annual KHQA Student Athlete of the Week.
This program recognizes Tri-State area high school seniors who excel both on and off the field.
Student Athletes are recommended by their athletic director, principal or coach and should meet the following guidelines:
- The nominee must be a high school senior for the school year 2016 – 2017
- The nominee must be in good academic standing (The Student Athlete Review Board prefers student athletes with a GPA of 3.5 and above on a 4.0 scale)
- The nominee must be a participant of an IHSA, IAHSAA, or MSHSAA recognized sport
- Multi-sport athletes are eligible to be Student Athletes of the Week one time
The first athlete of the week will be selected later this month by the Student Athlete Review Board.
The Board will then meet the first Monday of each month until April 2017.
The KHQA Student Athlete of the Week will be featured on KHQA’s weekday evening news at 6 pm starting in October and each Wednesday through May 2017.
Each KHQA Student Athlete will be recognized at a banquet in early June 2017.
In addition, one male and one female Student Athlete will be named KHQA Student Athlete of the Year and each will receive a monetary scholarship to the college of their choice courtesy of KHQA and our sponsors, Cell Tech, Subway, and Peters Heating & Air Conditioning.
