Take what you saw out of the Palmyra boys last season, and add to it more experience and more chemistry. So far this summer, its a promising mix for a team with numerous strengths heading into next season.
"I think we can really attack the rim, and when we do that and can move the basketball well we can get a lot of open 3's. This summer we've shot a lot of baskets in the gym, and I think we're really shooting the basketball well right now,"
"I feel like, with everyone coming back this year, we know where everyone is going to be and how to get everyone to contribute so we can win more ballgames,"
To say 'everyone is coming back next year' isn't too far from the truth. The Panthers lost only 2 contributors from last year's team.
"Ever since I moved here last summer, the chemistry has been building ever since. Me, Brock, Jordan, Bazil, Holtz, Caleb and everybody else, we're becoming more of a family, and that will help us in the long run,"
Apparently that chemistry is paying off early. At one point this summer, Palmyra put together a 19-game win streak. Not to mention quality wins over area powers like Payson-Seymour, QHS, and QND.
"When we get a win like that it just boosts everybody's confidence. It makes us feel like we can shoot the ball and play with anybody out there every time we step on the court,"
"Those games are a pretty good confidence booster. It doesn't mean that we'll beat them during the season but it helps us a lot with our mindset. We've got to get through the season and get work done like we are this summer,"
"We're really trying to put ourselves in a position to play big schools, knowing that we don't get to do that during the regular season. We've been down to Belleville and playing schools like that so its been good for our kids,"
This team understands there's still plenty of work to put in to ensure that their summer success will translate to November and beyond. But you can never go wrong with a solid jumpstart.
"This summer we've been able to expand on where we ended last year. We had a tough loss to Clark County, but we're going to try and put that behind us, improve and get better. With all of the returners, we don't have to start from day one and we're able to elaborate on what we did last year,"
