Shelby, four other Quincy University Teammates honored on USA College Football Preseason All American List

SHELBY, FOUR QU TEAMMATES HONORED ON USA COLLEGE FOOTBALL ALL AMERICAN LIST
Senior running back LaDarion Shelby (Decatur, Ill./MacArthur) was named a preseason third team All-American while senior wide receiver Justin Dickens (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett), junior linebacker Zach Vath (Brandon, Fla./Bloomingdale) and senior defensive linemen Tyler Reidl (Franklin Grove, Ill./Ashton-Franklin) and Cory Connolly (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) were named preseason All-America honorable mentions.
Head coaches, sports information directors, CFL and NFL agents and franchise scouts, broadcast, internet, national and regional print and magazine media, members of football writers' associations along with the staff of USA College Football contributed to the selection process.
Shelby was the Hawksâ?? leading rusher a season ago when he was named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference second team. He ran for 733 yards on the season with seven touchdowns.
Dickens is the schoolâ??s all-time leader in touchdown receptions with 23 and set the single-season mark in that category with 12 scores last season. He finished the year with 43 catches for 568 yards and had a touchdown catch in each of his last eight games. Dickens was also named to the All-GLVC second team last year.
Vath was Quincyâ??s leading tackler a season ago, coming up with 64 total tackles â?? 5.5 for loss. He also had back-to-back 11-tackle games and recovered two fumbles against St. Ambrose, returning one for a 72-yard touchdown. He was an All-GLVC second team choice last season.
Reidl tied for third in the GLVC with seven total sacks and finished the year with 25 tackles. Reidl, a 2013 captain, was named to the All-GLVC second team and was a second team Capital One Academic All-American.
Connolly had 35 tackles last season, including 7.5 for loss. He also had 4.5 sacks and blocked two kicks. Connolly, who will be a captain for the second straight season, was an All-GLVC second team choice.
The Hawks, in their second season under head coach Tom Pajic, open the season at Western Illinois on Sept. 7 at 1 p.m.
