KEENE'S COACHING TENURE RECONSIDERED, BUT NOT RE-INSTATED AFTER SPIRITED SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
One month ago, Zach Keene sat home blissfully unaware that the Illini West School Board was ending his career as the Charger Girls Basketball Coach; a firing that seemed more than a little incongruent with his level of success on the sidelines in Carthage.
To this day, Keene insists he still doesn't know why he lost that job; nor why the board chose to handle his ouster in that manner it did.
At IW's monthly School Board Meeting tonight, the public (both pro Keene and pro firing) got its first chance to be heard on the matter.
The session featured five speakers in all. Two who spoke briefly (off mic) to assert that the board had made the right decision and should stay the current course; followed by three who chose to spoke admonish the board for its handling of the situation.
In the end, their words changed nothing. The IW School Board voted along the exact same lines as it did in March to part ways with the coach.
