NLI Day: Daniel a big award for Unity's Cory Miller


Certainly not a surprise given the season he just completed....

But a well deserved honor nonetheless....

Unity Senior Cory Miller this morning became the 18th ever winner of the prestigious Red O'Flaherty Award for Basketball, Scholarship, Sportsmanship and overall excellence.

The award has been bestowed by the West Central Officials association since 1999 and is voted on by area coaches, officials and media.

Miller beat out three other finalists, including Macomb's Carter Fayhee and Illini West's Kennedy Gooding for the honor after earning 2nd Team All State accord in as season that saw him average 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in leading the Mustangs to the state quarterfinals.

Miller ended his career with 1615 points

He helped the rising Canton Soccer program to its third straight District Title this past Fall...

No to shabby for an offensive catalyst...with just three years of organized soccer to his credit.

Daniel Welch's potential was still enough to catch the eye of the Culver Stockton program....

A warp speed career leap that Welch credits to the faith his head coach Sarah Mueller placed in him.
