The power lifting scene hit the Quincy area with full force.
The first ever "Battle of the Mississippi Power Classic" was held at the Quincy YMCA.
There were 12 competitors with six of them being local.
One teenager in particular from the area broke three American records.
Tanner White from Keokuk, Iowa broke records in the teenage division for the squat, bench and deadlift. Matthew Ballard from Quincy also set a new American record for deadlift in the teen division in a different weight division.
"Tanner White from Keokuk, IA broke 3 American records; Squat 185kg (407lbs), Bench 117.5kg (258.5lbs) and Deadlift 237.5kg (522.5lbs) for the Teenage 14-15, 110kg Division. Tanner took home Best Overall Lifter in the Teen/Junior Division with an accumulative lift of 540kg and Best in Class award for the Teen 14-15 age and 110kg weight division. Matthew Ballard from Quincy also set a new American Record in the deadlift with a pull of 182.5kg (401.5lbs) in the Teenage 14-15 100kg weight division," Quincy YMCA Wellness Director Johanna Voss said.
Organizers were excited with this year's turn out, and hope to continue this next year.

Jacob Obert â?? 170kg (374lbs) squat and 240kg (528lbs) deadlift.
