KHQA First Report: Monroe City promotes David Kirby to head Football Coach

KHQA FIRST REPORT: MONROE CITY TO NAME DAVID KIRBY AS NEW HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

For just the third time since 1979, Monroe City is set to introduce a new head football coach.

KHQA has learned that Offensive Assistant Coach David Kirby will be promoted from within to replace Tony DeGrave, who resigned earlier this spring to take an Administrative Job with the Marion County School District. Kirby has spent the last two years serving on Tony DeGrave's staff and had prior experience with Milan High School.

Kirby is viewed as an energetic and enthusiastic coach and one I had the chance to work with during last summer's Do or Die Bowl, where he coached the West Squad Defensive Line. He is currently also working as an assistant with the much decorated Monroe City Track and Field program

A source tells KHQA that Defensive Assistant Brock Edris will remain on staff with Coach Kirby and hold a "prominent role" on the staff going forward.

An official announcement is expected Thursday
