KHQA/SUBWAY SUPERFAN SHOOTOUT SLATE FOR FEBRUARY 7-8TH AT THE PIT AT QND
FRIDAY FEBRUARY 7TH
Game One QUINCY HIGH VS CALHOUN GIRLS 5:30PM
The Blue Devils may be playing down to 1A competition but figure to have their hands full with a Warriors squad that has jumped out to a fast 5-1 start this Winter.
Game Two QND VS CLOPTON GIRLS 7:00P
Traditional battle of powerhouse schools and a rematch of the game that first put the Superfan Shootout on the map
Game Three QND VS ELSBERRY BOYS 8:30PM
The State Ranked Indians look to prove themselves against Illinois competition after a tough loss to the Paxton Harmon led West Hancock Titans last season. Superstar Center Kenny Lesley is back and the lithe 6'8" pivot, who is getting all manner of Division One recruiting attention, has opened this season averaging 26 points and 17 rebounds per game.
SATURDAY FEBRUARY 8TH
Game Four UNITY VS QUINCY HIGH GIRLS 9:00AM
The Donut Game pairs a rising Mustang squad, fronted by do-it-all guard Maggie Bowles and emerging scorer Kaylee Kuhn against a Blue Devil squad looking to avenge last years loss to Unity.
Game Five WEST HANCOCK vs WEST CENTRAL GIRLS 10:30AM
The Threes figure to be flying in what just might be the most underrated game in the slate. The State Ranked Lady Cougars, led by stellar scorer Abby Lashmett, tangle with the high octane attack of Adam Brumbaugh's vastly improved Titans; who can get points in bunches from Carly Runge, Alexis Dooley or Shelby Koehler on a given night.
Game Six WEST HANCOCK VS KNOX COUNTY BOYS NOON
Fun coaching subplot within the West Hancock family here with Zach Summers getting to show off the progress his Eagles have made against Hancock County's resident Coaching Master Reno Pinkston. The Eagles boast potential All Stater Royce Poore making his final shootout stand and looking to atone for an off-performance last year against Payson Seymour. The Titans have been an attack by collective this season with Drew Beeler stepping up strong on the inside to compliment a fine array of outside snipers.
Game Seven PITTSFIELD VS KEOKUK BOYS 1:30PM
A battle of elite area guards as the Saukees look to continue their run of Superfan Brilliance under Brad Tomhave against the returning Chiefs. Player of the Year candidates Wayde Smith, who has been given the green light offensively this season for Pittsfield and long range sniper Jonny Dahl get a stage worthy of their talents for a first ever head to head battle.
Game Eight ILLINI WEST VS BOWLING GREEN GIRLS 3:00PM
In the tradition of SuperFan Border Battles, we pair two of the region's most consistently successful girls programs with the Lady Bobcats forced to combat a Charger squad that has started the season afire. Shootout stalwart Graci Bastert has excelled on this stage ever since her Sophomore debut here and Grant Suprenant has built one of the best ensemble casts in Tri State Girls Basketball this season.
Game Nine ILLINI WEST VS LANARK EASTLAND BOYS 4:30PM
The Chargers draw 2013 IHSA Class 1A Final Four qualifier Lanark Eastland and must contend with dynamic returning All State Point Guard extraordinare Dalton Shaner, who is probably worth the price of admission alone to watch in action. See his mix tape here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peKfgoPXX2Y
Game Ten PAYSON SEYMOUR VS MADISON BOYS 6:00PM
A rematch of last year's highly entertaining 1A Jacksonville Supersectional with Payson Seymour, who opened the Illinois season ranked number one in IHSA 1A Basketball seeking to atone for a loss in the round of eight to a Madison team that comes back rated ninth in the state to start the year. Preseason KHQA Player of the Year Cody Hildebrand leads his Indians against a Madison squad that returns two promising scorers in Tyvon Powers and Deontay Starnes from last years State Runner Up Squad.
Game Eleven QND VS DANVILLE BOYS 7:30PM
After years of wishing, hoping, begging and cajoling, Southeast Iowa's resident basketball powerhouse is finally bound for 10th and Jackson. The Soukop Twins are gone from last years third place Class 1A Finish but the Raiders will have their hands full with a young, dynamic led by Sophomore Kolton Jackson and Juniors Mason Speer and Connor Hoelzen. Should be a fun first ever meeting between two traditionally exceptionally basketball traditions.
Game Twelve QND VS ROLLING MEADOWS GIRLS 9:00PM
Rolling Meadows, who came within a point of winning the Class 4A Title last Winter, returns to exact revenge on a QND squad that beat them in a warp speed 87-82 thriller in the Shootout last February. The Lady Mustangs return plenty of octane to the fold with a pair of Division One pledges back in the fold, including phenomenal point guard Jackie Kemph (Saint Louis) and Gunner Alexis Glasgow (Northwestern) to do battle with Eric Orne's three time defending state championship squad.
