2014 KHQA Barnstorm Tour: Macomb Bombers

Jacob Poore enters his third year as the starting QB for the Bombers.

A year older, a year wiser and the will to get Bomber football back on the map in Macomb. Kelly Sears troops return a number of letter winners from a year ago including six on offense. Although young, the experience is in all the right places.

Kelly Sears: "we are still very very young, but I got a lot of veterans coming back. I got kids that are sophomores that started for me last year as freshman. Any time you can get that veteran line and running backs in we're going to be in good shape. I feel very good in our offensive line, that's something where we have a lot of depth at."

Bryan Mappin: "I think we've been doing well as a whole team, more together like a family."

Grant Brown: "I think we're miles ahead of where we were last year. I think the biggest change is our attitude. Last year not everyone was on the same page or at least not everybody was working for the better of the team, a lot of people were working to improve themselves. In this kind of game, working for yourself isn't going to get your team everywhere. In the end, you want the team to be successful. I'm thinking we're going to come out a lot fast, stronger and a lot stronger then we did last year."

Anchored by some big boys up front, Sears welcomes back quarterback Jacob Poore. The junior enters his third year as the starter and is as relaxed as he's every been under center.

Jacob Poore: "being the third year here in varsity, last year the game was slower and this year its even slower for me. It really is just I'm comfortable now and I feel I can do my best this year."

Brown: "to be honest, I wouldn't want anyone else back there. He knows everything that's going on. He knows every position. His intelligence and natural ability for this game is going to take him pretty far."

Sears: "I don't know how many years Jake's been redshirted, but it sure does seem like it. It's just that, he's been here so long, you know, I'll tell you what, I've got another year with him. It's great to have that at experience at quarterback."

Depth at the running back will be another key asset.

Sears: "we're looking at Trey Augusta. He's coming back. He started for us last year as a freshman at the tail end of the year. Bryce Westen and Korby Foxall will be alternating between tight end and our fullback spot. Lucas VanNatten will be playing our wing back. All those guys got carries and played last year at the varsity level so there's experience there."

A tough three game stretch opens the season, this team will be well groomed by the time they hit their conference schedule. Their ready to surprise teams this year by getting back to true Bomber football.

Mappin: "I think we'll come out a ground and pound team. I really think we won't hesitate at all, we'll just ground and pound and run it down their throats."

Poore: "our team motto is, don't worry about what people are saying about us. From last year to this year we are a new team. We are going to come out and do us and be that ground and pound team. We're going to come out and hit you right in the face. That's Bomber football and that's how we're going to do it."

Brown: "as long as we're working as team, working as one unit, I don't think there's anything that can get in our way."
