Christmas tree shortage
LIBERTY, IL —
If you're looking to have a real tree in your home for Christmas, you need to act fast.
Greg Mathews with Mathews Christmas Tree Farm in Liberty says the supply of Christmas trees for this year is lower than usual.
He said the company he works with bringing in trees had to cut some of their employees because of the decline.
“The growers have had some issues with trees not surviving and maybe in the past a few years ago maybe they projected that there will be a less of a demand so they planted less,” says Mathews.
Typically, Christmas trees are anywhere from seven to 12 years in age before they are harvested. While the tree is being raised, the crop can face challenges with weather and the economy which seem to be the reason for this year's shortage.
