Quincy utility director ends 40-year career with city

Quincy's utility director will retire in December after more than four decades of service with the city.

Mayor Kyle Moore confirmed Thursday that David Kent's last day on the job is Dec. 20. The city will begin taking applications for his replacement who will need City Council approval before hired.

Kent's annual salary is $89,000. The new director will have a salary that corresponds with his or her experience.

Moore said that the city hopes to have the new director in place by the fall so the new hire can shadow Kent for about two months.

"David has been looking to retire for over a year now," Moore said. "There were a number of big projects in the works that he now feels are on the right track."
