The driver of the Nauvoo Colusa school bus that crashed into a car has been ticketed for failure to yield right of way at an intersection.

An Illinois State Police crash report states Martin Daley, 75, of Nauvoo was driving east on County Road 2000 North in Hancock County southeast of Nauvoo at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.

Gretchen Ridgeway, 37, of Nauvoo was driving north on County Road 900 East and hit the passenger side rear axle of the school bus.

The impact caused the bus to overturn and come to rest on the driver's side. The crash report indicates that seven people were taken to area hospitals, including Daley and two passengers on the school bus.

Superintendent Kent Young said six students were on the bus at the time of the accident.

The other passengers were treated and released at the scene.

"It could've been a lot worse," he said. "We're fortunate. We don't like to see any injuries. It's never a good thing for school buses to have accidents but it appears the kids got out okay. That's what's important."

Ridgeway and three passengers of the other car were taken to Carthage Memorial Hospital.
